Rankings-an objective view?

Having served on various NCAA and ITA Selection and Ranking Committees for some 15 odd years, it always struck me as how subjective the Rankings for d3 actually are. The Committees do a great job, but the nature of the beast is that they are "subjective" evaluations, and are thus left open to criticism. It has long been a goal of mine to comprise some semblance of "objective" order and so yesterday, I sat down and compiled data using some basic guidelines. This was done solely for Men's Tennis in the Central Region. But the hope is that a system can be developed that can be used in any Region of d3.

Rule #1: All Conferences within the geographical boundaries of the Central Region must be represented.
Rule #2: A Team MUST have a .500 won/loss record or better to be considered.

Point Values were assigned for Quality Wins/Quality Losses using the 4/12 ITA ranking lists as a starting point. All data through 5/1/12 was considered.

With the assistance of Coe Assistant, Kris Tiedt who has a MBA, a spreadsheet was created, and 5-6 different formulas applied to the data. We are getting close, but still have a couple of glitches to work out.

Look for our Central Region rankings soon!
