The Coe College men's tennis team is ranked both regionally and nationally by the ITA.
SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Coe College men's tennis team is ranked both regionally and nationally by the ITA. A pair of Kohawks are also ranked in the regional poll, with one landing in the national poll as well.
As a team, the Kohawks are ranked 36th in the nation and eighth in the central region. The Kohawks have a loaded schedule this spring, as they will face seven schools ranked in the ITA National Top 40 Poll. Coe will face a pair of schools ranked in the top 10 in Washington-St. Louis (third) and Chicago (sixth). The Kohawks also face Case Western Reserve (14th), Wisconsin-Whitewater (26th) and DePauw (33rd). On top of the five teams Coe faces that are nationally ranked, Coe will also face Carleton, Wisconsin-La Crosse, Carthage, Grinnell and Luther, all of which are ranked in the ITA Central Region Poll.
In the ITA National Singles Poll, sophomore Brady Anderson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar) is ranked 15th in the nation. Anderson finished the fall season 9-1 in singles and 5-2 in doubles. Anderson is also ranked third in the ITA Central Region Singles Poll. Senior Ryan Hickman (Hutchinson, Kan./Hutchinson) is ranked 23rd in the regional singles poll. Hickman was 3-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles in the fall season.
The Kohawks open the spring schedule Jan. 30, as they host the sixth-ranked Chicago at the Clark Racquet Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
Haley Resnick is ranked 22nd in the ITA Central Region Singles rankings, while the Kohawks are 13th as a team.
SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Coe College women's tennis team is ranked in the first ITA Central Region Women's Tennis poll of the year. Coe's Haley Resnick (Bettendorf, Iowa/Assumption) is also listed in the singles rankings.
Having already faced two members of the ITA Central Region Poll, the Kohawks are ranked 13th in the first poll of the year. Coe owns a 6-3 win over 20th-ranked Luther, while sixth-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater beat Coe 9-0. The Kohawks will also face seventh-ranked Hope, ninth-ranked Kalamazoo, 15th-ranked Augustana and 20th-ranked Lake Forest this spring. 
In the singles poll, Resnick is ranked 22nd after her Iowa Conference MVP campaign this fall. Resnick finished the fall portion of the schedule 12-3 in singles and 10-3 in doubles with Laura Birky (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier). Resnick won nine of her last 10 matches, including the last five.
The Kohawks (7-1) return to action on Feb. 20, as they travel to NCAA Division I Creighton. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. in Omaha, Neb.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Coe College tennis player Haley Resnick (Bettendorf, Iowa / Davenport Assumption), Wartburg College golfer Rochelle Beardsley (Peosta, Iowa / Western Dubuque) and Buena Vista University football player Jalen Henningsen (Alta, Iowa / Alta-Aurelia) have been named IIAC Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 11, 2015. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in eight fall sports.

Women's Tennis — Haley Resnick, Coe College, Bettendorf, Iowa / Davenport Assumption
Resnick, a sophomore, successfully defended her Flight A singles title at the IIAC Women's Tennis Individual Tournament with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) win over No. 2-seeded Arantxa Martinez of Dubuque in a rematch of last year's Flight A final won by Resnick in three sets. Resnick trailed 5-2 in the second set before rallying to win. The title was the fifth-straight in Flight A Singles by a Kohawk. She also teamed with Laura Birky to win the Flight A doubles crown. Entering the tournament as the No. 2 seeds, the tandem defeated top-seeded Maggie Helms and Hailey Johnson of Luther, 8-5, in the final. It was the eighth-straight year Coe has won the Iowa Conference Flight A Doubles championship. (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week)

Coe sweeps Iowa Conference Flight A Singles & Doubles

Haley Resnick earned titles in Flight A Singles and Doubles.


CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - For the fifth-straight year, the Coe College women's tennis team has swept the top spot in Flight A Singles and Doubles at the Iowa Conference Championships.
Coe opened the day with a semifinalist on each side of the bracket in Flight A Singles. On the top half, top-seeded Haley Resnick beat fourth-seeded Maggie Helms of Luther 6-2, 6-2. On the bottom half of the bracket, second-seeded Arantxa Martinez of Dubuque beat third-seeded Amy Sebastian 7-5, 6-0. Sebastian trailed 1-0 in the third-place match when she retired due to injury. In the championship match, Resnick beat Martinez 6-3, 7-6 (4) for her second-straight title. Resnick trailed 5-2 in the second set before rallying to win. The title was the fifth-straight in Flight A Singles by a Kohawk.
In doubles play, Resnick and Laura Birky were seeded second. In the semifinals, they beat Luther's Cychosz and Pressler 8-3. In the championship match, they were faced with Luther's top-seeded pair of Helms and Johnson. The Kohawk pair earned the win, defeating Luther's top duo 8-3. It was the eighth-straight year Coe has won the Iowa Conference Flight A Doubles championship.
The IIAC Championships wraps up the fall season for the Kohawk women. Coe will return to action on Feb. 20, as they travel to NCAA Division I Creighton. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. in Omaha.

Brady Anderson earned runner-up honors in singles at the ITA Midwest Regional.

SAINT PETER, Minn. - Sophomore Brady Anderson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar) advanced to the championship match of the ITA Midwest Region Singles bracket Sunday morning.
Anderson had a tall task in the semifinals during his first match of the morning, as he faced top-seeded Jake Humphreys of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Humphreys won the ITA Midwest Regional last season. Humphreys won the first set 6-2, but it was all Anderson after that. Anderson jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second set before evening the match with a 6-3 win in the second set. Anderson rolled through the final set, beating Humphreys 6-1 to advance to the championship match.
In the championship match, Anderson faced second-seeded Mohanad Al Houni of host Gustavus. Al Houni won the first game, but Anderson evened it at 1-1. Al Houni then won three-straight games to take a 4-1 lead before winning the set 6-2. In the second set, Al Houni led 3-2 before winning the final three games for a 6-2 victory.
The ITA Midwest Regional wraps up the fall season for the Kohawks. Coe returns to action Jan. 30, as the Kohawks host the University of Chicago.

IIAC Performer of the Week

Senior Amy Sebastian advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.

Women's Tennis — Amy Sebastian, Coe College, Mundelein, Ill.
Sebastian, a senior, advanced to the quarterfinals of in the singles draw at the ITA Midwest Region Championships hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College. She posted straight-set wins over Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Colleen McCullough (6-1, 6-2), Carthage's Max Mella (6-4, 6-4), and Carroll's Megan Krzewinski (6-0, 6-0) before falling to third-seeded Michaela Schulz of Gustavus Adolphus (6-2, 7-6 [4]).

Kohawks Nab 5th Straight IIAC Title!

The Kohawk women's tennis team won their fifth-straight Iowa Conference Championship on Tuesday.






CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - For the fifth-straight year, and eighth time in school history, the Coe College women's tennis team has been crowned Iowa Conference Champions. Coe won the outright title with a 9-0 win over Wartburg.
The Kohawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. At number one doubles, Haley Resnick (Bettendorf, Iowa/Assumption) and Laura Birky (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) beat Liz Rucker and Marissa Buresh 8-2. Birky and Resnick improved to 7-3 on the year with the win together. At number two doubles, Diannah Watson (Frisco, Texas/Lone Star) and Tamara Washington (Corona, Calif./Norco) beat Katherine Ross and Kayla Reusche 8-4. The win improved Watson and Washington to 4-0 in Iowa Conference play together. Coe's final doubles win came from Kaitlin Fosler (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) and Sarah Lasecki (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy), as they beat Alex Petersen and Alexa Schmitz 8-3. 
At number one singles, Resnick beat Ross 6-4, 7-5. Resnick picked up her eighth win in the last 10 matches. Amy Sebastian (Mundelein, Ill./Vernon Hills) remained undefeated in Iowa Conference play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Rucker at number two singles. It was Sebastian's ninth win in the last 10 matches. At number three singles, Birky earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Buresh.
Lasecki earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Reusche at number four singles. At number five singles, Watson improved to 6-0 in Iowa Conference play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Petersen. Washington earned the final singles victory, as she beat Carly Sis 6-1, 6-1 at number six singles.
The Kohawks (7-1, 7-0 IIAC) return to action on Friday, Oct. 9, as they host the Iowa Conference Singles and Doubles Championships.

Coe clinches share of IIAC title!

DECORAH, Iowa - For the fifth-straight year, the Coe College women's tennis team has earned a share of the Iowa Conference Title. Coe beat Luther 6-3 Sunday to earn a share.
Luther jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Coe's lone doubles win came at number two, as Tamara Washington (Corona, Calif./Norco) and Diannah Watson (Frisco, Texas/Lone Star) beat Olivia Heitz and Lauren Welch 8-3. The Kohawks climbed back to take a 4-3 lead with three singles wins. At number two, Amy Sebastian (Mundelein, Ill./Vernon Hills) beat Jenna Myers 6-3, 6-1, while Laura Birky (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) beat Welch 6-3, 6-3 at number three singles. At number five, Watson beat Heitz 6-3, 6-3.
With the 4-3 lead, Coe needed a win from Haley Resnick (Bettendorf, Iowa/Assumption) at number one or Washington at number six singles. The Kohawks picked up a win at both to secure their 35th-straight win over an Iowa Conference opponent in the regular season. Resnick beat Maggie Helms 6-2, 6-3 to clinch the win, while Washington beat Britta Pressler 3-6, 6-0, 10-5 at number six singles.
The Kohawks return to action on Friday, as they participate in the ITA Midwest Regional in Saint Peter, Minn. Coe will wrap up the dual season Sept. 29, as they host Wartburg at 3 p.m.


Laura Birky earned four wins on Saturday for the Kohawks.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Coe College women's tennis team picked up its fifth-straight win on Saturday, as the Kohawks blanked Simpson and Central in Iowa Conference play.
The Kohawks opened doubles play with an 8-2 win at number one, as Haley Resnick (Bettendorf, Iowa/Assumption) and Laura Birky (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) beat Kelli Ehrhardt and Kellie Greiner. Resnick also picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ehrhardt at number one singles, while Birky won by default over Greiner after they split sets. 
At number two doubles, Diannah Watson (Frisco, Texas/Lone Star) and Tamara Washington (Corona, Calif./Norco) beat Michelle Hartmann and Cassidy Bierbrodt 8-2. Watson also earned a win in singles, as she beat Megan Bradley 6-2, 6-1 at number five. 
The final doubles win against Simpson came at number three, as Kaitlin Fosler (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) and Sarah Lasecki (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) beat Bradley and Liz Nimmo 8-1. Lasecki also picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bierbrodt at number four singles, while Fosler earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Nimmo at number six singles. Coe's final victory came from Amy Sebastian (Mundelein, Ill./Vernon Hills), as she beat Hartmann 6-1, 6-2 at number two singles. 
Coe opened doubles play with another win from Resnick and Birky, as they beat Angie Allgood and Megan Davis 8-4. Resnick earned another win at number one singles, beating Allgood 6-0, 6-4. Birky picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win over Karianna Grindberg at number three singles. 
At number two doubles, Watson and Washington beat Anna Bowser and Grindberg 8-2. Watson earned a 3-6, 6-0, 10-7 win over Bowser at number five singles, while Washington picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Paige Vannausdle at number six singles. 
Coe's final doubles win came from Sebastian and Lasecki, as they beat Amanda Kuhn and EmmaGrace Walter 8-4 at number three doubles. Sebastian also earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Davis at number two singles, while Lasecki picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Maley at number four singles.
