What I learned yesterday...

Well, I learned that it is a very nice luxury for a Coach to have Senior Players who are still "into" tennis, and who lead by example on court. Yesterday, our Seniors(El, Scott, Hannah, Nat)got both matches off to a tremendous start with sterling doubles play. I appreciate the luxury!

You know what else is a great luxury? Having TWO great assistant coaches! Coach Rob helped Michelle through a challenging singles match, and Coach Kris sat(suffered?) through another three set marathon by VK, waiting for him to break serve! That left me free to focus on JR and Jeff's three setters. More white hair for me!

It was a nice day. Augustana College has a talented roster on both their Men's & Women's teams, and yesterday the Vikings played well, so it presented a nice measuring stick for your Kohawks. As far as Wins and Losses go, it was obviously a successful day. Beyond that, a few things we need to work on showed up: Faster starts, better match-end closing skills, opportunity-recognition skills, serve percentage control in doubles. Areas that we have been stressing showed up well too: partner communication, positive body language, better offense/defense balance in singles.

The upcoming week and weekend present us with another opportunity to improve. The Kohawks will be traveling 12 strong to the Kerry Seward Invitational, hosted by Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana. This will be an eight team flighted tourney with each player guaranteed three singles, and three doubles matches. The women have an off week from competition, so I expect Coach Kris to be cooking up intriguing conditioning workouts!
