Saturday was a big day of match play for the Men's Team. We had 15 players playing in two locations, and we came up short in the final results. On the positive side, it is nice to be able to provide the competitive experiences for so many players. This can only help to improve the playing ability of all 15 players. The majority of the matches were close in score, and that is where growth occurs as a player, in those close matches.
On the negative side, we didn't win enough of those close matches! More importantly, at least at my location, we did not clearly embrace the competitive nature of a tight match. We fell into the common tennis player trap of fighting our own emotions, and forgetting to focus our energies on competing against the foe(s) on the other side of the net.
Back to the positive side, we have many upcoming opportunities to compete against high quality, higher-ranked teams starting next weekend with Whitewater and Luther. I am looking forward to working with the players on this, and unlocking the top-end of our ball striking abilities. Once we achieve that, we can compete with any of the schools on our schedule!
