Coe College first-year, Noah Sprinkel made his collegiate debut a memorable one by capturing the A flight singles and doubles titles of the Iowa Conference Individual Tournament, including a win over NCAA qualifier, Nick Garcia of Dubuque.In analyzing the results from the weekend a few things became readily apparent. First year players made an impact all over the A flight draw comprising four of the ten seeded players, and another unseeded first-year made the quarterfinals. The Conference is young with 19 of the A flight entrants being in their first or second years of collegiate play.
While it appears that Luther and Coe again appear to be the top two squads, the gap is certainly closing on the 2011 2nd place Kohawks. Each of the remaining seven schools has added quality first-year players and the Iowa Conference from top to bottom may be at a historically high level of play.
