What I learned yesterday as the Men's Team held their 2nd Saturday of competition in Clark Racquet Center.
I learned that after a "scratchy" week of doubles practice, we were a bit better in the morning, and (finally!) in the evening brought a bit of the intensity and emotion I feel is necessary for good doubles play. It was nice to see all 4 courts focused and intent at the same time. Now if we can do that from the beginning next Saturday and sustain throughout, I would be content. At least for an hour or so!
Singles play demonstrated improvement, just not on the same scale as doubles. It is a very nice luxury for the coaches to have 11 players vying for court time. And deserving of it. The opportunity to compete on a regular basis, to perform repetitions in a match setting, and to have competitive foes across the net, all contribute to our growth.
I also know from looking at the match boxscores of next week's opposition(UW-Oshkosh & Central) that we NEED to have a good week of practice, good health and continued improvement to have an opportunity to succeed again next Saturday!
