Men's Practice Begins

Monday was the first men's team practice of the Fall 2011 season, which will only last for the next 3 weeks. Unfortunately for the guys, it took place just as the US Open Men's Final was getting underway!

On Practice

Guess what every coach wants from their Teams? Good Practices! What constitutes “Good Practices”?

First of all: Promptness. Showing up on time (for Kohawk Tennis that is at least 5 minutes prior to scheduled start time!)

Be Prepared mentally and physically to improve. Do not bring mental or physical “hangovers” onto the court.

During the entire practice period, engage mentally, work hard physically, and maintain a positive emotional state.

At the conclusion of the Day’s work, analyze and review how practice went for you, how you improved today, and what you can do to be better tomorrow.

Iowa Conference Players of the Week!

Women’s Tennis – Michelle Schupbach, Coe College, Cedar Falls, Iowa / Waterloo Columbus

Schupbach, a junior, posted two wins each in singles and doubles as the Kohawks opened the season with 9-0 victories over IIAC foes Simpson and Central. She dropped only one game in two matches at No. 1 singles, then paired with Tai Lucero for a pair of 8-1 victories at No. 1 doubles.

Women's Tennis — Tai Lucero, Coe College, Odessa, Texas / Permian
Lucero, a sophomore, improved to 5-0 in singles and 5-0 in doubles this season with three wins each at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. She failed to yield a game to any of her singles opponents, registering 6-0, 6-0 victories against Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Dubuque, and Loras. In doubles, she and Michelle Schupbach dropped only three games, capping the week with an 8-0 victory over Loras.

Men's Tennis begins Fall Season

The Kohawk Men will begin their short 3-week Fall Season with Today's 330 practice. Two weeks to prepare for the Iowa Conference Individual Tournament and then the top eight will head to Minnesota for the ITA Regional Championship the first weekend in October.

Senior Captain, Jonathan Roger will be leading the Kohawks this year.
