Week II

Finished up a hard-working week one of practice. I think I can safely say we have enough players that can keep score so that we will be able to field a team! Really, though, we had a good week. Knocked off a lot of rust, worked hard on doubles combinations, and all the players are very sore from Conditioning Sessions, and two days of intrasquad play.

This week we will try and get a bit better each day. Augustana(IL) will provide very skilled opposition on Saturday(1/30) at 10am.

TWO WEEKS!

In just fourteen very short days the 2010 Men's Tennis Season gets underway. I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable new year! Now it is near time to string up all the racquets, stretch out the rested legs, and get on the court and get after it!

Coach Murphy Moving On!

Mark Murphy, the Associate Head Coach here at Coe, has been offered, and accepted the position of Women's Tennis Coach/Tennis Facilities Director at Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Like Coe, Kalamazoo is a NCAA D3 school and their facilities serve as the host for the USTA Boy's 18 and 16 and under National Championships every August. Coach Murphy will do a great job for the Hornets and we all wish him the best! (Except on April 23rd when Coe will take on Kalamazoo)

Tennis Channel

During our down time between seasons(Men begin on 1/17/10, Women on 2/22/10) I like watching the live matches shown on the Tennis Channel. They show a lot of Men's and Women's matches from the Indoor European Circuits. It is a great way for me(and you!) to see how the professionals are playing. It is on the Pro Circuit where "cutting edge" tactics and shots get revealed. I learn a lot that is applicable to the two Coe College teams. And the announcers are a lot less talkative than those you find on network TV!
