Carthage/ Dubuque Preview
In the last (hopefully!) of the Indoor Home Double Duals, your Kohawks will play host to 11th rated Carthage College and IIAC foe, University of Dubuque.
In the feature morning match, Coe will be matched up against a very talented Carthage squad. Coach Brady Lindsley has added two outstanding first-year's to his four returning starters to compile a lineup which he believes will challenge some of the perennial regional powers. Singles and doubles will be led by the nationally ranked duo of Sammy Ramoni and Jack Schiro. Doubles will again prove to be key as Coe has not won a morning doubles match in three weeks, and the Carthage singles lineup looks to be too tough to overcome a 0-3 deficit!
In the nightcap Coe will host the vastly improved Spartans from Dubuque. Headed by 2nd year Coach Bryan Mours, Dubuque will be led by Nick Price(fy-Germany) and Claudio Giraldi(jr-Italy). The Kohawks will be facing a very steep physical challenge on Saturday!

WOW!
Stats & Actuaries tell us that when a Team drops all three doubles in a nine point match there is an 11% chance of a win.
20 years of tracking tennis matches tells us that the reality is only 4%.
Your Kohawks did just that today, rebounding from a 3-0 deficit by winning five of six singles matches to "trounce" (Hah!) Eau Claire 5-4.
The Kohawks also edged St Ambrose in the late match by a 7-2 count.

Eau Claire Preview
The Kohawks host the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire tomorrow at 9am. UWEC is coming off a great showing in a 5-4 loss to annual powerhouse Gustavus Adolphus. Eau Claire returns all of thier starters from 2009 and get additional help from another experienced player coming back from injury. Their #1 doubles pair was runner-up in the Fall ITA Regional, while the #2 and #3 pairs both won against Gustavus. Coe was swept last week by LaCrosse in doubles, so look for the doubles result to set the tone for the rest of the match. Coe must avoid being swept again.
In singles, Eau Claire looks to have a very deep lineup with very little drop off from #1 to #6. The Kohawks sport a very similar singles lineup, so expectations are high for a very competitive morning of singles.

Wisconsin-LaCrosse Preview
Coach Bill Hehli brings the Eagles of Wisconsin-LaCrosse to Cedar Rapids this Saturday for a 9am match that looks to be a toss-up. LaCrosse is 3-1 in 2010, with their only loss to nationally ranked Carleton College. The Kohawks are 3-0 after two weeks.
The Eagles sport a veteran group with five returning starters led by Joey Van Lieshout and Nick Piotrowski. The two hold down the top singles spots and sport an undefeated 4-0 mark at #1 doubles. Coe counters with Elliot Rausa and Greg Janssen in the top singles positions, while Rausa teams with Scott Stegemann at #1 doubles. The duo has an unblemished 3-0 record.
Coe will also host Monmouth College at 5pm Saturday. This will be Monmouth's first competition of the 2010 season.

OZ Open Recap
Early Saturday morning, Serena Williams battled Justine Henin of Belgium for three tough sets before capturing her Australian Open title. Clearly the #1 player in the world, Serena laid claim to perhaps being the top female tennis player ever. Although certainly up for debate with the supporters of Martina Navratilova and Magaret Court Smith, Serena's competitive skill is without question as fierce as any player ever. Combined with her speed afoot & power of shot, an excellent case could be made on her behalf.
Roger Federer left little doubt early Sunday morning that he is the GOAT(Greatest of all time) with his straight set defeat of talented Scot, Andy Murray. Federer's 16th Grand slam title was a combination of racquet artistry, physical fitness, and tactical awareness. With this Australian Open title he begins his pursuit of a calendar Grand Slam. A real possiblity this year with Nadal being beset by injuries, and his own mastery of the grass at Wimbledon.
